Usually I don’t use rude words, but now I don’t have other words to formulate my surprise. Something strange is going on with my sites. I don’t blame google specifically (but firstly I thought to put its name the title) but it seems there is some virus which either crawled into search engines or was created by them. People tend to share success stories, how they increases their revenues, rankings, etc. But this post would be a ranking-failure story which may be is my fault but I can’t figure out where did this virus came from. I asked some friends who have more experience and work for major IT companies. They have no idea. I prefer to ask a post in order to try solving this “mystery”. May be you have an idea what’s going on with search engines and/or my sites. Or may be you experience similar problems.
I’ve made a lot of screenshots. Read more if you are interested.
I know I should notice it before. But I have so much work now that very often I lack time for my sites. When the last google updates happened I noticed the failure in my rankings. I did nothing. I took it as fact “Ah, ok, rankings fell, but I have so many ideas that next next time I will do my seo differently and will be on top”. I even did not take a detailed statistics. I thought it was Pengiun. But probably it was not. I’d better call it Google’s Bacterial Vaginosis the new algorithm which punishes the sites but not by removing them from ranking but by redirecting them into some shitty sites. Of course is this bacterial vaginosis redirect remains – sites would be removed from SERPS sooner or later.
Or may be they will stay. Mine sites are present in serps but I don’t get traffice because when someone clicks my sites – they get to some other spammy site. (They are different, I checked it from different IPs, different regions and asked some people to check.) That’s why search personalization is not present here. And I don’t have virus on my PC or Mac, because other get the same results. Every click gets redirected now.
Ok, here comes the first screenshot
This problem repeats with my other sites. However not all the sites get such results, others probably receive even more traffic after penguin updates (due to the good new content). But of course sites which get these spammy results fell in ratings. It just means that I CANNOT RECEIVE ANY TRAFFIC FROM GOOGLE. All of the traffic comes to some others sites (and the sites differ from the “personalization” and “localization”).
I took another screenshot when I tried to search my music site and the results are the same.
Ok, the first and easiest reaction is to blame Google. But I just have no idea what is that! A new redirect-cloaking virus? And old virus whom I don’t know. I decided to take a look at other search engines.
With Yahoo the problem repeats
The difference is that it redirected to other web-site and my WOT plugin told this site has a bad rating. I can imagine! So may be others get the same fucked up results from search for their sites?
Here comes the Bing
Here comes the interesting part. I decided to check Ask.com and Baidu (the biggest Chinese results). And guess what? Everything was OK! In these search engines I got NO redirects and accessed my sites without problem. Why? I don’t know. Of course the problem is that I get very few traffic from Ask and probably no traffic from Baidu.
But both search engines displayed my sites well and I was able to visit my sites as good as it always was.
If this problem is mine and only mine – then why everything is ok at these search engines and at the same time there is a problem with Google, Bing and Yahoo? If it is a virus, does it mean they are weaker than smaller search engines??
Or my version for now is that Google (followed by Yahoo and Bing) introduces new punishment algorithm (let’s call in Bacterial Vaginosis Update) and they decided to fight spammers by their own means. And may be I’m just a victim who fell into their “spammers list” test project.
I may be wrong, I hope to be wrong. But if I’m partially right then I decide to notify my colleagues and friends and that’s why I wrote this post.
